Suspect arrested after 2 fatally shot during late-night neighbor dispute in Mesa

PHOENIX — A suspect was arrested and charged with murder after two people were fatally shot late Thursday during a dispute between neighbors in Mesa, authorities said.

Justin Peterson, 41, was charged with one count of second-degree murder and reckless discharge of a firearm in the death of 39-year-old Ivana Liversedge, Mesa police said in an email.

Officers were called to the area of Signal Butte and Broadway roads at about 11:50 p.m. and arrived to find two people, Liversedge and 54-year-old Shawn Conner, on the sidewalk with fatal gunshot wounds, police said.

An initial investigation revealed the two deceased individuals were in a dispute with their neighbors, Peterson and his 38-year-old spouse, when both couples produced firearms, police said.

Possible criminal charges for Conner’s death are still possible, according to police.

Peterson’s wife was considered a witness so far in the investigation, police said.

Investigators still plan to interview multiple witnesses and serve search warrants to gather more evidence.
