Police share footage of fighting, looting at West Valley convenience store

PHOENIX – The Surprise Police Department released surveillance footage related to theft and disorderly conduct at a West Valley convenience store over the weekend.

The Saturday night surveillance footage shows people fighting and looting at the QuikTrip on Bell Road just west of Loop 303.

Police said around 50 people were involved in the incident.

In one video dozens of people can be seen forming what looks like a circle in the parking lot before two girls enter the screen wearing boxing gloves and fighting. The large group follows the girls, filming the altercation and blocking multiple cars.

When the fight ends the group continues to stand in the parking lot, talking, dancing and blocking cars.

Meanwhile, a video from inside the convenience store shows multiple people taking alcohol from a cooler and walking out without paying for it. Afterwards an employee locks the cooler.

A different angle from outside shows the people milling around the front of the QuikTrip for a few minutes before police show up and everyone starts to scatter.

Police said the lawless activity interfered with access to Abrazo Surprise Hospital, which is just south of the convenience store.

“Acts of violence, looting and organized criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our city. These actions threaten the safety and security of our residents, businesses and critical services,” the department said in a social media post.

How to help police after convenience store was looted

According to ABC15, police said politically motivated comments were heard as the looters left the store, but it wasn’t clear if there was any connection to the “No Kings” protests held earlier Saturday.
