State trooper injured in crash involving suspected drunk driver in Buckeye

PHOENIX — A state trooper was injured Wednesday night in a collision involving a suspected drunk driver on a West Valley freeway, authorities said.

The trooper was parked on the right shoulder of westbound Interstate 10 in Buckeye around 7:30 p.m. at the time of the collision, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

How was state trooper hurt in collision?

A pickup truck hauling three vehicles on a trailer allegedly veered off the roadway and struck the trooper’s vehicle.

The trooper, who had been completing paperwork from and earlier incident, sustained possible head injuries and was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

The truck driver, who was not hurt, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. He faces possible charges of DUI and related felonies.
