Man accused of stabbing other driver after minor collision in Mesa arrested in Nevada

PHOENIX – A man who allegedly stabbed a woman repeatedly after a minor collision in Mesa last month was arrested in Nevada, authorities announced Friday.

Joseph Sellers, 30, is accused of fleeing the Feb. 20 crash scene near Broadway Road and 40th Street, between Val Vista Drive and Greenfield Road, after attacking and robbing the other driver, the Mesa Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run collision around 9:30 p.m. and learned while en route that the incident involved a robbery, too.

When they arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed multiple times by the other driver, who also stole her cellphone before fleeing the scene.

The attack occurred after the drivers pulled over to exchange information, police said.

What happened to Mesa stabbing suspect?

Detectives quickly identified Sellers as the suspect and determined that he left the state.

They tracked him to Las Vegas, where he was taken into custody.

Sellers was extradited to Arizona and booked into a Maricopa County jail last week on counts of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and burglary.

His bond was set at $850,000.
