Woman arrested for fatal stabbing in West Valley church parking lot

PHOENIX – A woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a man and leaving him to die in a West Valley church parking lot, authorities said.

The Surprise Police Department launched a death investigation after a body was found face down near 113th Avenue and Bell Road around 6 a.m.

The victim, 28-year-old Tyrone Lee Wetzler, had been stabbed multiple times, police said.

Investigators learned that Wetzler and two other unhoused people, including Kahpri Wells, had permission to stay on the Unitarian Universalist Church grounds.

What did stabbing suspect allegedly tell police?

When detectives questioned Wells, 32, she allegedly admitted to stabbing Wetzler during an altercation Monday night and fleeing the scene.

Wells was booked into jail Tuesday on counts of first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
