Driver dead after allegedly speeding into tree in west Phoenix

PHOENIX — A man was left dead after crashing into a tree in west Phoenix early Sunday, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Police responded to the area of 59th Avenue and Indian School Road just before 2 a.m. to find the body of 20-year-old Jesus Dominguez-Romo. Phoenix fire personnel, who arrived before police, declared Dominguez-Romo dead on the scene.

Detectives learned that Dominguez-Romo was driving westbound on Indian School Road before he smashed into a tree on the north end of the road. The amount of damage to his vehicle revealed he was driving at a “high rate of speed,” police said.

Possible impairment or other crash factors are being investigated.

No other details were made available.

About 25 minutes prior and only one mile away, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car while crossing the street.
