SNAP resources and helpful information in Arizona for those in need

About 900,000 Arizonans – 12% of the state’s population – receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, with about 40% of the federal program’s funding in the state going toward feeding children.

Roughly 30,000 Arizona veterans depend on SNAP EBT food stamps, which are accepted at over 4,600 retailers across the state.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture told states it would run out of money to fund the food assistance program if the ongoing federal government shutdown isn’t resolved by Nov. 1.

At KTAR News, we want to help Arizonans facing food insecurity — or who want to help those who are — find SNAP-related resources.

The Arizona Food Bank Network website has a list of available resources, including a database of food banks, pantries and soup kitchens that serve people in need and accept donations.

Furthermore, here are some businesses and resources offering help to SNAP recipients in Arizona:

• Worth Takeaway: Starting Nov. 3, the Mesa restaurant will provide children with free meals to families that request the “kid’s meal special,” with no purchase required.
• The Pemberton: The downtown Phoenix community gathering space is offering one free meal a day to SNAP EBT card holders.
• Lovebite Dumplings: The downtown Phoenix restaurant is offering free meals Nov. 1-8 for anyone with an EBT or SNAP card.
• PHX Hunger Relief: The city of Phoenix and St. Mary’s Food Bank are partnering on a food drive.
• Food Bucks Now: Arizona SNAP households are eligible for $30 vouchers, while supplies last, for fresh produce at participating farmers markets, mobile markets and community grocery stores.
• Gopuff: The delivery platform is offering up to $50 in credits for SNAP-eligible groceries, committing up to $10 million in total relief, for users who link their EBT cards to their accounts.
• JustAskMia.org: Use the Just Ask Mia family-support chatbot or text “Family” or “Familia” to 877-558-2261 to get location-based referrals in English or Spanish to nearby food banks, pantries, hot meal sites, diaper banks and family resource centers.

Any donation big or small helps, as the cost of a SNAP benefit per person per meal in 2024 was $1.99.
