Not sure if a shelter pet is the right fit? Take them home for a night to find out

PHOENIX — One Valley shelter is offering prospective adopters the unique opportunity to bring home a cat or dog they’re considering adopting overnight.

The Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL), located at 25 N. 40th St.,  is offering these “slumber parties” to people who are looking at animals that are five months and older.

How do these pet “slumber parties” help?

The overnight visits are meant to remove the pressure from the adoption process and give the pets a chance to connect with interested adopters.

In addition, the break from the shelter allows the animals to show their true personalities, according to AAWL.

It also gives potential pet owners an opportunity to see how the cat or dog does in their home and whether they are compatible with their family.

According to AAWL, these “pet pajama parties” reduce the possibility of a cat or dog being returned while also increasing the likelihood of adoption.
