Neglected dogs, cats, goats seized from home north of Phoenix

PHOENIX – Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered multiple neglected animals at a home north of Phoenix on Monday.

Deputies were responding to an assault call in New River, about 35 miles north of downtown Phoenix, and noticed puppies who appeared to be starving.

A resident said the dogs were unfed due to a lack of money.

Detectives obtained and executed a search warrant and found puppies, adult dogs, cats and goats on the property without food.

The investigation also revealed that the residents didn’t have standing to be on the property, which was sold at auction in March.

No arrests were made, but authorities seized eight puppies, four dogs, two cats and five goats as evidence of animal neglect.

No other details were made available. The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this year, the Arizona Senate passed a bill to bring more protections for abused and neglected animals, but the House hasn’t voted on it.
