PHOENIX — U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is among the list of Arizona Democrats demanding stricter coronavirus measures who hasn’t been in contact with Gov. Doug Ducey despite the pandemic worsening again in the state.

Sinema told KTAR News 92.3 FM Gaydos and Chad on Tuesday that the two haven’t had any recent conversations.

“Gov. Ducey has indicated that he’s working on other things and hasn’t had the time or interest to talk with me recently,” Sinema said.

Sinema has been advocating for stricter mitigation strategies including limiting bars and indoor dining, restricting large youth sports tournaments and a statewide mask mandate.

Other prominent Arizona Democrats — including Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero — have been pushing for similar measures.

Both mayors have shared that they’ve also have little to no contact with Ducey in months.

“Those are just some of the things Gov. Ducey could do now,” Sinema said.

Ducey has been steadfast in not implementing a statewide mask mandate or again shutting down the state.

His defiance comes even as the state is seeing record level of cases and is threatening an overload of Arizona’s hospital system in coming weeks.

Arizona reported a record 10,322 new coronavirus cases with 48 more deaths on Tuesday, putting the state’s totals at 337,139 COVID-19 infections and 6,687 fatalities.
