Arizona shooting suspect tracked down and arrested in Mexico

PHOENIX – An Arizona man who fled to Mexico after allegedly shooting into an occupied vehicle earlier this year has been arrested, authorities announced Wednesday.

Alejandro Pereza-Pasos, 19, is accused of firing from his car into a vehicle carrying an adult driver and two teenagers in Cottonwood on May 29, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO). Nobody was injured.

Pereza-Pasos and the driver were involved in a dispute before the shooting at the intersection of Western Drive and Pleasant Valley drives.

The suspect’s car was found outside a nearby home, but he’d already fled the area, YCSO said.

Authorities put a warrant out for his arrest on aggravated assault and misconduct with weapons charges.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and Mexican authorities worked together to locate Pereza-Pasos in Mexico and take him into custody.

Pereza-Pasos, a U.S. citizen, is awaiting extradition to face charges in Arizona.
