Arizona man sentenced to 16 years for sexually assaulting woman at his home

PHOENIX – An Arizona man was sentenced last week to 16 years in prison for tying up and sexually assaulting a woman at his home, authorities announced Monday.

Brett David Ellis, 35, will have to register as a sex offender and undergo seven years of supervised release after he serves his time, per Friday’s sentencing.

Ellis bound his victim at his Prescott home before sexually assaulting her, according to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said the victim was able to escape after convincing her assailant to loosen the tape on one of her hands. She immediately reported the crime to police, leading to Ellis’ arrest in November 2024.

On July 25, a Yavapai County Superior Court jury found Ellis guilty of two counts of sexual assault, one count of kidnapping and one count of aggravated assault.

“I hope the lengthy sentence imposed in this case sends a strong message that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in Yavapai County,” Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane said in a press release. “Sexual Assault is a horrific crime. I encourage anyone who has been the victim of such a crime to promptly report it so that the perpetrator can be brought to justice before anyone else can be victimized.”
