Arizona man arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting 2 children in Kansas

PHOENIX — A man was arrested in southwest Arizona on Friday in connection with the sexual assault of two children in Kansas, authorities announced.

Juan Daniel Tamayo was taken into custody in Yuma and is facing 15 counts, including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated criminal sodomy, according to the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS).

Tamayo is accused of assaulting two children, who were under the age of 7, from 2014 to 2017 in Kansas.

He was indicted in Kansas on the charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Why was Kansas sexual assault suspect in Arizona?

Tamayo has been living near Yuma with his family for an unspecified amount of time, according to a release from USMS.

On Thursday, the Somerton Police Department in Arizona requested assistance from USMS in relation to this case.

USMS’ WANTED Violent Offender Task Force then began investigating and located Tamayo in Yuma.

He was taken into custody and has been booked into the Yuma County Jail.

Tamayo will be extradited to Kansas, where he will face charges.
