Teenager arrested for allegedly shooting man at Scottsdale bus stop

PHOENIX – The teenager suspected of pulling the trigger in a shooting at a Scottsdale bus stop last month was arrested Thursday, authorities said.

It was the third arrest in the case, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on May 24 after a verbal altercation between three teens and a man on a bus, police said.

A 17-year-old boy allegedly shot the victim after they all got out of the bus near Scottsdale Road and Main Street. The teens fled the scene afterward.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the lower body. He was treated at a hospital and released within 24 hours, police said.

How were Scottdale bus stop shooting suspects identified?

Investigators retrieved surveillance camera footage showing the suspects and distributed an image to the media and community on May 28.

Two 16-year-old suspects, a boy and a girl, were located and arrested that day based on community tips.

The boy was booked on misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges, and the girl was booked for misdemeanor disorderly conduct. They were both released after getting booked.

The 17-year-old suspected shooter was arrested at his home in Phoenix around 5:15 a.m. Thursday and booked on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will determine whether to prosecute him as an adult.

Police didn’t release the suspects’ names because they are minors.
