Scottsdale police seek public’s help in finding suspect in ‘targeted’ murder case

PHOENIX — The Scottsdale Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a man who is suspected to have murdered a man over the weekend.

Police identified 35-year-old Matthew Dieringer as the suspect and described him as a 185-pound white man with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Officers conducted a welfare check at a home near 68th Street and McDowell Road around 1:30 p.m. on Monday after 67-year-old Frank Quaranta didn’t show up to work.

When officers arrived at the home, they were unable to make contact with Quaranta and forced their way inside. Once inside, they found Quaranta dead.

Detectives processed the scene and identified Dieringer as a suspect.

Police said the fatal incident was “a targeted attack” and that Dieringer had a history of experiencing homelessness.

According to Scottsdale police, Dieringer was described as manipulative and charismatic. The department also noted that Dieringer is known for befriending others so they help find him a place to stay.

Police told anyone who sees Dieringer to immediately call 911, not approach him and use caution.

Anyone with information on Dieringer’s whereabouts is asked to call 480-312-8477 or Silent Witness at 480-948-6377. Any tip through Silent Witness that lead to an arrest or indictment is eligible for up to $1,000 in a cash reward.
