PHOENIX – A Salt River tuber died over Memorial Day weekend, authorities confirmed Thursday.
Deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive man in the water at the Sheep’s Crossing Recreation Site around 10 a.m. Saturday, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.
A witness said the man, identified later as 54-year-old Stephan Sweet, fell off his tube and lost consciousness.
Salt River tuber couldn’t be revived
Good Samaritans performed CPR on the Sweet before MCSO medics arrived and started life-saving measures.
The patient was taken by airboat to a Salt River tubing bus stop area, where medics pronounced him dead.
MCSO Lake Patrol is investigating the case, but no foul play is suspected.
Salt River tubing is a popular recreation activity when the Valley heats up in the spring and summer.
