More Arizonans arrested for DUIs over Memorial Day weekend this year than in 2024

PHOENIX — Authorities arrested more Arizonans for driving under the influence this Memorial Day weekend than last year.

A new report from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety found the total number of DUI arrests this year was 436.

Of those, 54 were aggravated, while 382 were misdemeanors.

That’s an increase from the total DUI arrests of 405 last year, which included 72 aggravated DUIs and 333 misdemeanor DUIs.

Bad news from the Arizona Memorial Day DUI report

On top of an increase in DUI arrests, there were also 251 distracted driving citations. That’s an increase from last year’s total number of 156 in this category.

Criminal speed citations were also up: 275 drivers were given these citations compared to 254 in 2024.

Civil speed citations was another category that was notably higher this year. There were 4,276 citations in this category compared to 3,542 in 2024.

Drivers in Arizona also had higher known BACs this Memorial Day weekend, with an average of 0.150. That’s higher from the 0.142 average in 2024.

Good news from the Memorial Day DUI findings

On a positive note, seat belt citations were slightly down from last year: 274 people got citations in this category. In 2023, there were 281.

Child restraint citations was also another category down from last year, going from 2024’s 74 to this year’s 29.

DUI drug arrests was a category that saw no change from last year with 117 arrests in 2025.
