A SAFE Alert issued on Saturday for a missing 85-year-old man last seen in Phoenix has been cancelled, authorities said.
Julio Nieves-Hernandez was safely found as “the subject of a welfare check call for service,” according to the Phoenix Police Department.
He was taken to a hospital in Tucson out of precaution, and his family was en route to reunite with him.
When the alert was first issued, Nieves-Hernandez was last seen Saturday in the area of North 35th Avenue and West Lynwood Street driving a silver 2011 Honda CRV with the Arizona license plate FLA3TP.
Nieves-Hernandez was described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and 180 pounds, with gray/white hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a gray checkered shirt and dark colored pants.
He suffers from a medical condition that may cause him to become confused and easily lost.
SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
