SAFE Alert canceled after missing 82-year-old man from Goodyear found safe

Authorities have canceled a SAFE Alert for a missing 82-year-old man named Ernest Friday, who was found safe in Peoria.

PHOENIX — Authorities have canceled a SAFE Alert for a missing 82-year-old man last seen Tuesday morning.

Ernest Friday was last seen leaving his residence in the Estrella Mountain Ranch area around 10 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

He left in a black 2018 Jeep Renegade, which has the Arizona wheelchair license plate of JFC42.

DPS said his vehicle was last seen in the area of New River Trail and Peoria Avenue.

This prompted a SAFE Alert, which was issued around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. It was canceled around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Goodyear Police Department said Friday was found sitting in his car near 83rd and Olive avenues in Peoria by Peoria police officers on Wednesday around 6:40 a.m.

Friday is 5 feet, 7 inches and 185 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing black shorts, crocs, a gray T-shirt and glasses.

Anyone who has information that can help authorities find Friday is urged to contact the Goodyear Police Department at 623-932-1220.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older or who suffer from dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
