SAFE Alert canceled after 12-year-old boy last seen in Peoria found

Authorities canceled a SAFE Alert Friday after a 12-year-old boy who went missing in Peoria two days earlier was located safely.

The SAFE Alert was issued Thursday for Elijah Viera, who was previously last seen on foot near 103rd and Northern avenues around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Elijah is 5 feet and 2 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing an oversized white shirt, shorts and white tennis shoes, authorities said.

Elijah has a medical condition that may cause him to become lost or easily confused.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental or cognitive disabilities.
