Suspect arrested after West Valley road rage shooting

PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was arrested Thursday after allegedly shooting at a motorist during a road rage incident in the West Valley.

Officers responded to a shooting call near 83rd and Olive avenues in Peoria around 8 a.m., according to the Peoria Police Department.

The man who reported the incident said he was traveling east on Olive Avenue when another driver stopped next to his vehicle and started yelling.

The suspect then allegedly raised a handgun and fired one shot at the caller, striking the rear passenger door, before fleeing the area.

What happened after road rage shooting in Peoria?

The victim was not injured and called 911 after pulling off the road. Police didn’t provide any details about what led up to the road rage shooting.

Officers canvassed the area but couldn’t find the suspect.

However, over the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify his vehicle.

Detectives and Peoria SWAT arrested the suspect, Rey D. Villegas, without incident later in the day.

Villegas, a 49-year-old Phoenix resident, was booked into jail on one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drive by-shooting.
