Ripley’s Believe It or Not! unveils new hair-themed exhibit in Scottsdale

PHOENIX — Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in Scottsdale announced Thursday a new exhibit based around all things hair.

The exhibit “Hair Raising: The Unruly World of Strand” explores the world of human and animal hair with more than a dozen hair-centric displays pulled from Ripley’s global collection.

“This is one of the most unique and conversation-starting exhibits we’ve ever hosted,” Arizona Boardwalk managing partner Ran Knishinsky said in a press release. “Hair plays a surprisingly powerful role in cultures around the world — whether it’s being used as art, turned into fashion, or preserved as a personal keepsake. This exhibit highlights just how strange, meaningful and creative hair can be.”

The exhibit will be up at the tourist attraction located at Arizona Boardwalk for a limited time.

With the purchase of a general admission ticket, guests can view everything in the gallery.

What are some the items Ripley’s Believe It or Not! new exhibit has?

Some of the hair items that will be on display include:

• Hoss the Human Hairball: The Guinness World Record for the largest ball of humane hair which has hair from more than 3,000 people and weighs more than 225 pounds.
• Locks of Hair from Cultural Icons: Strands of hair from celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, John F. Kennedy, The Beatles and more.
• Human Hair Trousers: Pants made by a barber in St. Louis who advocates for the recycling of hair.
• Victorian Funeral Hair Wreaths: A wreath made from a loved one’s hair that was once displayed in homes as a sign of remembrance.
•  Giraffe Hair Jewelry: Jewelry made from Giraffe hair which some African cultures believe brings good fortune and protects from illness.
• Hair Sculptures and Micro Art: Art pieces made with hair including a miniature clown balancing on a single strand of hair, a moth made entirely from human hair and more.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! also has other artifacts, interactive displays, oddities from the animal kingdom, pop culture memorabilia and unbelievable but true stories for guests to see.
