Rep. David Schweikert staff member tests positive for coronavirus

PHOENIX — The same day Arizona’s Pima County saw its third presumptive positive case of coronavirus, Rep. David Schweikert announced that a member of his team had tested positive for COVID-19.

The infected individual is part of his Washington D.C. staff and is “resting comfortably at home and following guidance from local health officials,” according to Schweikert.

The staff member’s diagnosis was confirmed by the Virginia Department of Health.

Although much of Schweikert’s office work had already been moved online in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Schweikert told KTAR News 92.3 FM that his entire staff in both his Scottsdale and Washintong D.C. offices will be working from home until further notice.

Schweikert said that he had been in contact with the infected individual and is taking precautionary measures.

“Given that I have interacted with the employee who tested positive, I will be working from home unless otherwise told by doctors.”

Although Schweikert and his staff are taking proactive measures, the Arizona Rep. said  that the diagnosed staffer — indicated to be in his 30s — “already feels great.”

“He’s already is itching to go outside,” Schweikert continued, even though the staffer will be remaining indoors for another week.
