Police make arrest in fatal hit-and-run on McDowell Road in Phoenix

A suspect who may have been impaired during a fatal hit-and-run collision in west Phoenix last weekend is in custody, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A suspect who may have been impaired during a fatal hit-and-run collision in west Phoenix last weekend is in custody, authorities said Friday.

Daniel Osuna, 25, allegedly drove into a vehicle being pushed by two men before fleeing the scene on Sunday, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

The incident occurred on McDowell Road near 59th Avenue around 6 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the men, ages 28 and 35, were pushing the disabled vehicle eastbound at the 6100 block of W. McDowell Road when they were hit.

Both victims were taken to the hospital, where the 28-year-old man died of his injuries.

Detectives investigating the case came to believe Osuna was driving the vehicle that fled, and he may have been impaired, police said.

Osuna was arrested and booked into Maricopa County Jail.

No other details about the incident were released.
