Charges filed against Pinal County man who allegedly kidnapped ex-girlfriend, killed her dog

PHOENIX — Charges have been filed against a Pinal County man who allegedly kidnapped his estranged girlfriend and killed her dog, officials announced Tuesday.

Peri Cann, 34, was charged with kidnapping and intentionally killing a domestic animal for the incident that occurred in May, according to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office (PCAO).

Cann is currently being held in the Pinal County Jail on a $200,000 secured bond.

What led to the Pinal County man being charged?

According to investigators, Cann is accused of kidnapping the victim and her dog then driving them to the desert.

PCAO said Cann then gave the victim an ultimatum, shoot her dog or lure her boyfriend out to the desert.

When the victim refused to choose, Cann reportedly killed the dog before leaving its body in the desert.

Following the incident, the victim brought police to where the dog’s body was left and showed them a video where Cann allegedly admitted to killing the dog, according to PCAO.

Eloy Police Department is investigating the incident.

Cann will appear in court for a pretrial conference on Aug. 25.
