Phoenix shelter treats animals to special Thanksgiving furry feast

Nov 25, 2024, 11:00 AM

PHOENIX — Animals waiting to find their forever homes at a Phoenix shelter celebrated Thanksgiving over the weekend with a furry feast.

Bashas’ supplied the ingredients for a smorgasbord of holiday-themed treats for more than 150 potential pets at the Arizona Humane Society’s Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus.

The dishes were prepared by a group of AHS donors and volunteers. The menu consisted of snacks and toys that pet owners can make at home as part of their Thanksgiving celebrations:

  • Thanksgiving Kongs: Sturdy rubber chew toys filled with dog food, turkey and green beans.
  • Peanut butter pies: Peanut butter spread between two dog biscuits.
  • Candy apples: Cored apples covered in peanut butter and cheerios.
  • Deviled eggs: Plastic eggs filled with dog treats.
  • Turkey bark: Turkey and green bean pieces frozen in an ice cube.
  • Kitty curlicues: A pipe cleaner wrapped around a pencil, a favorite shelter cat toy.

AHS is currently caring for around 1,100 dogs, cats and other critters who are undergoing medical treatment or are ready to be adopted.

We want to hear from you.
