Phoenix reopening reservable athletic fields at city parks

PHOENIX – For the first time in five months, athletic fields in Phoenix parks will be available for reservation starting Thursday.

The City Council last week approved the reopening of the reservable fields, which were closed April 2 to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Participants, coaches, officials and spectators will have to follow health safety protocols at the venues.

Spectators, officials and coaches will be required to wear face masks, spectators must stay at least 6 feet away from the fields, and no more than 48 youths or 24 adults can participate on a field at one time.

Groups reserving the fields will be responsible for enforcing compliance, but the city’s Parks and Recreation Department staff will also monitor activity.

Athletic field reservations can be made at the Parks and Recreation website.

Restrooms near the fields will also reopen, but the following park amenities will remain closed:

• Restrooms in parks without reservable fields.
• Playgrounds.
• Basketball and volleyball courts.
• Fitness equipment.
• Ramadas and picnic tables.
• Splashpads.
• Encanto and Rose Mofford sports complexes.
