Phoenix police return pet emu that escaped from owner’s home

PHOENIX — Officers tracked down and returned a pet emu that had escaped from its owner’s home Sunday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Around 6 a.m., officers responded to a call near 65th Street and Cactus Road about a “large bird loose in the area.”

The officers secured the emu and posted to social media to try to find the owner.

A nearby Scottsdale officer held onto the bird until Phoenix officers could escort it home.

The Phoenix Police Department posted a video showing officers walk the emu down the sidewalk while another officer follows in a car.
