Phoenix police officer-sponsored program donates toys for kids in need

PHOENIX — ‘Tis the season for giving back and one program sponsored by several Phoenix police officers did just that on Monday.

Members of Hoops 4 Hope, a Phoenix police officer-sponsored mentorship program for women, donated toys for kids in need to the Ronald McDonald House in Phoenix.

Phoenix Police Assistant Chief Mike Kurtenbach said the women who have been helped by the program wanted to help out and do their part to give back to young children in need.

“This is their opportunity to give back, so today they’re giving back to Ronald McDonald House for those who are less fortunate than they are,” Kurtenbach said.

The toy giveaway is called Operation Soul, which is part of the Hoops 4 Hope. Kurtenbach said the women had a “bunch of toys” to give donate to the House.

“They have a bunch of toys that they’re giving to try and put smiles on those who haven’t had a very great day or great year,” he said.

Kurtenbach said the toys can make a big difference in a child’s day.

“Anytime that you show somebody that there’s somebody that cares about them, it’s really great,” he said.

Hoops 4 Hope was developed by Phoenix Police Officer Jennifer Moore, who is assisted by officers Katrina Morales, Samantha Pimental and Melissa Soliz.  The program is designed to better prepare younger citizens, children and teens for the world ahead of them.
