New Phoenix Police Department headquarters closed to public after major water leak

The new Phoenix Police Department headquarters is temporarily closed to the public for repairs following a major water leak, the department announced Friday.

The Phoenix Public Works and Fire departments are working to make the building at 100 W. Washington St. operational again. The water damage is on multiple floors.

Headquarters is closed to the public due to a water leak that caused flooding in the building. Most operations are minimally impacted, the Public Records & Services Unit will be closed to the public. In the meantime, the Public Records and Services Unit is closed to the public, including in-person requests about towing and alarms. Requests can still be made through the online portal.

Additionally, staff will work from alternative locations to maintain continuity.

New Phoenix Police Headquarters debuted earlier this year

The Phoenix Police Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new downtown headquarters in the 27-story downtown tower formerly known as Wells Fargo Plaza in March. The move into the 500,000-square-foot space allowed the department to consolidate several operations under one roof and give community members a single location to access services.

The city purchased the building for $46.5 million in 2021 and spent roughly $180 million on renovations.

The police headquarters had been a half mile west at 620 W. Washington St. for more than 50 years.
