Phoenix police arrest man involved in fatal hit-and-run

PHOENIX – An arrest has been made in a fatal run hit-and-run, authorities announced on Monday.

Phoenix Police arrested Luis Ybarra, 21, and charged him on one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death or serious injury.

On Thursday around 5:23 p.m., five vehicles were involved in a crash near 19th Avenue and Roosevelt Street. The crash resulted in the death of 67-year-old Enrique Cortez.

Two adults and two minors were injured and taken to the hospital with injuries that were non-life-threating.

Ybarra is alleged to have been driving a vehicle that was involved with the collision and leaving the scene before authorities arrived.

Following the incident, police asked the for the public’s help in finding the driver who fled.

No other information was made available.

The case is an ongoing investigation.
