PHOENIX — If you haven’t already, it’s time to get the jackets out: Phoenix was poised for a cooldown later this week that will send highs below 60 degrees and lows into the 30s.
The National Weather Service said those would be the coldest temperatures of the season thus far.
The cooling trend was expected to start Thursday, when the high should be 58 degrees and the low should be about 38.
Friday’s high will be 59 degrees.
The weather service said people should cover pipes that may be exposed to cold temperatures, cover sensitive plants with sheets and bring animals and smaller plants indoors.
Things were expected to warm slightly as the Christmas holiday approaches, but not a great amount. Monday’s high of 66 degrees should still be enough of an excuse to break out your ugly sweater.
The latest cool down will come just days after Phoenix received its first rainfall in nearly four months.
Rain gauges in Paradise Valley, Scottsdale and Mesa recorded from 0.30 inches to 0.40 inches before sunrise on Sunday.
No rain was in the forecast for the coming week, though parts of the Valley may have received a sprinkle or heard a few claps of thunder on Tuesday morning.
