Phoenix nonprofit partners with app for gardeners to donate food for hunger relief efforts

PHOENIX — A nonprofit that works to overcome poverty in Phoenix has partnered with a mobile app that will allow gardeners to donate their extra food to local hunger relief efforts, officials announced Thursday.

Nourish Phoenix collaborated with Fresh Food Connect to launch an app for local harvesters.

Fresh Food Connect works by coordinating donations from app users to nonprofits that address food insecurity, according to a press release.

When ready, home gardeners will be able to drop off their produce at select zip codes across the country.

The executive director of Nourish Phoenix, Beth Fiorenza, said in the release that all donation sizes make a difference.

“In Central and South Phoenix, where we are located, studies find that many children have Vitamin A deficiencies and adults with diabetes,” Fiorenza said.

“Fresh produce in the food pantry is important to ensure that our families are receiving fresh nutritious meals.”
