PHOENIX — A City of Phoenix vehicle and a Waste Management garbage truck were involved in two separate car accidents in the Phoenix area on Tuesday.

One person was killed in the crash that occurred when the garbage truck collided with a car at a Chandler intersection around 5 a.m. No other details were immediately available.

Queen Creek and Price roads were closed for the investigation. Chandler Police said the driver of the car was taken to a hospital, but died from their injuries.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said three men suffered injuries that ranged from minor to serious after a pickup truck hit the back of the city vehicle in the area of 63rd Avenue and Indian School Road.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 20-year-old man, had serious but non-life threatening injuries, while the street transportation workers both suffered minor injuries.

The crash occurred around 8:45 a.m. Authorities believe the driver of the truck may have been impaired.
