PHOENIX – Peoria City Hall’s front entrance will begin a transformation following the public’s feedback, the city announced on Thursday.
The front yard of the city hall will be redeveloped to create a space for community events and public gatherings. To do so, a grassy oval lawn with a berm and a small stage will be installed.
Changes come after a month-long survey that had 224 participants vote on different designs. The winning selection gathered 60% of the votes.
To stay inline with Peoria’s goals of sustainability, non-programmable grass will be removed from other places to contribute to the new grass in the front entrance.
In order to make the new yard more accessible to everyone, city engineers are looking at options to bring ADA parking closer to the city hall’s front doors, allowing more people access to the lawn.
The city estimates the construction to be scheduled for summer 2025 following the renovation of the building’s roof.
In 2023, plans for redevelopment of the area began when the city council approved $2.4 million in capital funds to start the project.
