Pedestrian dies after vehicle hits her on West Valley street

A pedestrian died after a vehicle hit her on a West Valley street Friday night, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A pedestrian died after a vehicle hit her on a West Valley street Friday night, authorities said.

The woman was struck near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street around 6:30 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The woman’s identify has not be released. She died of her injuries Friday night after being taken to a hospital, police announced.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor, police said.

Detectives believe the woman was crossing Van Buren Street, just east of the intersection, when the vehicle headed eastbound struck her.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
