Pedestrian dies after getting hit by vehicle in downtown Phoenix

A pedestrian died after getting hit by a vehicle in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday night, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A pedestrian died after getting hit by a vehicle in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday night, authorities said.

William Sinclair, 84, was inside a crosswalk near Seventh Avenue and Fillmore Street when he was hit, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

He was suffering from serious injuries when officers arrived at the scene around 10:40 p.m. He was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

“Preliminary information indicates that Mr. Sinclair was crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a car traveling northbound,” Sgt. Jen Zak said in a media advisory.

Police said impairment is not believed to be a factor with the driver, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

No other details were made available. The investigation into the vehicle-pedestrian collision is ongoing.
