PHOENIX – A teenager was killed and three other people were injured in a Sunday afternoon collision between two off-road motorcycles in Peoria, authorities said.

Officers responded to the crash site on Old Carefree Highway about a mile west of Lake Pleasant Parkway just after 3 p.m., according to the Peoria Police Department.

The off-road motorcycles were heading west on Old Carefree Highway when one slowed while approaching a bend in the roadway and was struck from behind by the other, police said.

Two young men were riding the motorcycles, and each had a juvenile passenger.

A 14-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two drivers, ages 18 and 19, and the other passenger were transported to be treated for their injuries.

Impairment doesn’t appear to be a factor in the collision, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
