Nonprofit to break ground on Phoenix townhouse complex

PHOENIX — A local nonprofit that promotes homeownership will break ground Wednesday on a 20-unit townhouse complex in Phoenix.

Trellis, which provides counseling and education on housing and real estate, is building its Trellis @ Colter property on Colter Street and 16th Drive.

The nonprofit will hold the groundbreaking ceremony at 9:30 a.m., including speakers Phoenix Councilwoman Laura Pastor and Trellis CEO Patricia Garcia Duarte.

Trellis @ Colter will offer two floor plans. Each is three stories with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a garage.

Duarte said in a blog post that the development will add to the city’s inventory of affordable options for first-time homebuyers.

Trellis, formerly known as Neighborhood Housing Services of Phoenix, was established in 1975.

The nonprofit broke ground on three single-family homes in Phoenix’s Garfield neighborhood in February.
