Historic downtown Phoenix location reborn as high-rise apartments

PHOENIX – A historic downtown Phoenix location has been reborn as a mixed-use development with high-rise luxury apartments.

The Stewart, a 19-story building rising atop the former home of the Stewart Motor Company and Circles Records and Tapes, is holding a grand opening dedication Thursday.

The building on the northwest corner of Central Avenue and McKinley Street features a rooftop pool on the 18th floor, an eighth-floor outdoor courtyard, bicycle storage and rentals and on-site car wash service.

The project’s design maintained several of the building’s historic features, including the car company’s showroom turntable and semicircular window, original brick walls and a curved staircase.

Renters have the option of 24 floor plans with views of downtown. All of the studio, one- and two-bedroom units were built above the 64,000 square feet of retail space.

In the spirit of the record store that used to be there, the floor plans are named after legendary musical acts, including the Bowie one-bedroom, Nicks two-bedroom and Van Halen studio.

The largest and most expensive plan is the McCartney, a 1,899-square-foot studio with 2½ baths that will set you back $6,240 a month, according the complex’s website.

On the bottom end are the Petty and Ramone, 400-plus-square-foot studios that start at around $1,400 a month.

Residents started moving into the building earlier this month.

The Valley’s fifth Snooze an A.M. Eatery restaurant is scheduled to open at The Stewart later this year.
