Sample from gloves in Nancy Guthrie case don’t match DNA in FBI database

PHOENIX – DNA samples from gloves that investigators found 2 miles from Nancy Guthrie’s house in Tucson did not match anything in a national FBI database, authorities announced Tuesday.

The gloves were of high interest despite being found so far from the crime scene because they appeared to match the ones seen in surveillance camera images from Guthrie’s front porch.

Furthermore, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) said no samples collected during the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance over two weeks ago have produced hits in the Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS.

CODIS is a national database of genetic evidence collected from offenders and crime scenes.

PCSD added that investigators are looking into other genetic genealogy options to try and find matches to the samples.

Authorities also revealed Tuesday that investigators are working with a manufacturer and experts to try to locate Guthrie by detecting her heart pacemaker. News media reported that a “signal sniffer” device has been attached to low-flying aircraft.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie, hasn’t been seen since she was dropped off at home the night of Jan. 31.

Investigators have been working under the assumption that she was taken against her will that night or the next morning.

Authorities said they are still processing evidence gathered from Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills residence and when two search warrants were served last week. The people questioned in connection with those warrants were all released.

Additional search warrant activity can be expected as investigators follow up on more leads.

Nancy Guthrie’s family cleared as potential suspects

On Monday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced that all members of the Guthrie family have been cleared as potential suspects.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall of average build.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s location and/or an arrest and conviction in the case.

Authorities received a flood of tips after releasing photos and video of a masked person recovered from the backend systems of a surveillance camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door.

The suspect in the images was described as a male of average build who stands about 5 feet, 10 inches tall.
