Multiple Valley freeway closures to hinder drivers this weekend

PHOENIX — The holidays are over and restrictions on Valley freeways have resumed with multiple closures across metro Phoenix this weekend.

In north Phoenix, the eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed between Interstate 17 and Seventh Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for lane-line striping as part of a widening project, the Arizona Department of Transportation said in a press release.

The project will close both I-17 ramps to eastbound Loop 101, as well as the eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 27th Avenue.

Westbound Loop 101 will also be narrowed to the right three lanes between Pima Road and Princess Drive and Tatum Boulevard from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, while the ramps at cross streets will remain open.

In the East Valley, the westbound U.S. 60 Superstition Freeway is set to be closed between Greenfield and Gilbert roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for asphalt pavement removal.

On-ramps for the highway at Superstition Springs Boulevard, Power Road and Higley Road will also be closed.

In the southeast Valley, the eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be closed between McQueen and Gilbert roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for the Lindsay Road interchange project.

The project will also close on-ramps to the highway at Alma School Road and Arizona Avenue.

In Buckeye, Interstate 10 is scheduled to be narrowed to one lane in both directions in areas between Verrado Way and State Route 85 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, as well as from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.

In southeast Mesa, southbound Ellsworth Road will be closed at the State Route 24 Gateway Freeway work zone from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for bridge work.

The project will also narrow northbound State Route 24 to one lane.

In the far north Valley, Loop 303 is set to be closed briefly in both directions at various times in areas between I-17 and Lake Pleasant Parkway from 9 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday for APS overhead utility line work.

The final scheduled weekend restriction is in Tempe with the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway being closed briefly at various times overnight in both directions near Priest Drive from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday for APS overhead utility line work.
