Monsoon activity approaches Valley as thunderstorm warnings issued

Monsoon activity approached the Valley Saturday afternoon as several cities were issued severe thunderstorm warnings, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS said Avondale, Goodyear and Cashion were under severe thunderstorm warnings until 5 p.m. Potential hazardous weather conditions include winds up to 60 MPH and pea-sized hail.

Along with Avondale, the NWS said a severe thunderstorm warning was issued until 5 p.m. for Estrella Mountain Park and portions of Buckeye, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

The Valley has yet to receive any measurable rain as of 5 p.m. Potential rainfall could bring Valley residents some relief from the heat, with Sunday’s forecast expected to reach a high of 102 degrees and a low of 85.
