Phoenix travelers getting new nonstop flight option for Mexico City

PHOENIX – Travelers who fly between Phoenix and Mexico City will have a new nonstop option starting next year.

Aeromexico and Delta will launch daily service between Sky Harbor International Airport and Mexico City International Airport on March 30, the partner airlines announced Monday.

Aeromexico will use a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for the flights.

Sky Harbor is looking to build on its record passenger numbers from 2023.

“The demand for flights to Mexico from Phoenix has grown by 155% compared to pre-pandemic levels,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a press release. “Aeromexico’s nonstop service to Mexico City will improve travel options for our community as well as strengthen tourism and trade between our close-knit regions.”

The heart of Arizona will be closer to Mexico City starting March 30, 2025.

Arizona’s capital city will become Aeromexico’s 25th U.S. destination as the airline continues to expand its U.S. network.

“This alliance solidifies Aeromexico and Delta as the airlines with the best connectivity between the United States and Mexico. By the end of 2024, we will jointly operate 80 routes, with more than 135 daily flights between both regions,” Jeff Morgan, an Aeromexico executive, said in the release.

American Airlines is the only carrier that currently flies nonstop between Phoenix and Mexico’s capital city.
