Mayo Clinic in Phoenix ranked among nation’s 20 best hospitals again

PHOENIX – The Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix was once again named among the nation’s best hospitals for adults by U.S. News & World Report.

The north Phoenix facility near 56th Street and the Loop 101 Pima Freeway was tied for No. 18 on the website’s honor roll of best hospitals for 2019-20, which was released Monday.

U.S. News compiles rankings of the top 50 hospitals in 16 specialties each year and uses those results to create its top 20 overall honor roll (21 this year because of ties).

The Phoenix Mayo Clinic was in the top 50 in eight specialties, with top 10 rankings in pulmonology/lung surgery (No. 6) and gastroenterology/GI surgery (No. 7).

“While it’s a tremendous honor for us to be named among the best hospitals in the nation, we are most proud of our skilled and compassionate staff who place patients’ needs first every day,” Dr. Richard Gray CEO of Mayo Clinic in Arizona, said in a press release.

“This distinction recognizes just how well our staff has done in focusing on the highest quality and safest care possible for our patients.”

The Mayo Clinic, which was No. 11 for 2018-19, was Arizona’s top-ranked hospital for the seventh consecutive year, according to the release.

U.S. News conducted a detailed analysis of 4,653 hospitals to create this year’s rankings, and only 165 facilities nationwide made the top 50 in at least one specialty.

Banner University Medical Center Phoenix (No. 41 in geriatrics) and Phoenix’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center (No. 11 in neurology/neurosurgery) were the only Arizona hospitals other than the Mayo Clinic to make the top 50 in any specialty.

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, was No. 1 on the U.S. News national honor roll.
