PHOENIX — Maryvale High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday evening while police dealt with a situation on campus.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were called to the school, which is off of 59th Avenue and Osborn Road, at 6:10 p.m. for a man on campus who had jumped onto the gym’s roof.
When police arrived at the campus, they negotiated with the man for a short period of time before he voluntarily came down and was detained.
He was then taken to a nearby hospital with self-inflicted, non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
After he is medically cleared, the man will be booked into jail on charges related to the incident, police said.
“At no time were any students in danger,” Sgt. Rob Scherer told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “No other injuries resulted from this incident.”
