Police declare bomb threats at several West Valley campuses to be hoaxes

PHOENIX – Police determined that bomb threats directed toward several West Valley schools on Thursday were a hoax.

The first threat report came from Canyon View High School around 7 a.m., according to the Buckeye Police Department.

A staff member received a voicemail from a person claiming there were bombs on campus.

Students and staff were moved to the football field as a precaution while police combed the school.

More bomb threats reported in Buckeye

As the morning progressed, police heard about similar bomb threats at Verrado High School, the shared campus of Verrado Elementary/Middle School and Festival Foothills Elementary School.

Festival Foothills was already closed for spring break. Classes were canceled for the day at the other targeted schools.

Authorities referred parents of impacted students to the district’s Remind communication tool for more information.

“Buckeye police have determined these threats are an apparent hoax with similar incidents being reported in other states. Investigators expect to receive more reports of bomb threats as other schools return from spring break,” spokesperson Carissa Planalp said in a press release.

No suspect has been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
