Maricopa County Recorder’s Office website offers self-guided virtual tour of elections center

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office website is now offering a virtual tour of the downtown Phoenix elections center.

The self-paced online tour gives users a room-to-room peek inside the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center (MCTEC).

Virtual visitors can navigate their way across 56,000 square feet of MCTEC, making their way through everything from the hallways and lobby to the signature verification and tabulation rooms.

The tour includes over 100 tags and buttons that provide information, videos and documents in pop-up boxes.

The whole thing can be experienced on desktop computers, mobile devices or VR headsets.

“This self-guided, virtual tour perfectly embodies what I want this office to represent: innovation and transparency,” Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said in a press release Tuesday. “I’m excited to give Maricopa County voters another opportunity to engage with the election process.”

The virtual tour was launched while the physical facility is closed to the public ahead of the July 30 primary election.

Outside of election season, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office provides in-person tours of MCTEC. Thousands of people have received inside looks at the election process on 150 tours since January 2021, according to the press release.
