Maricopa Community Colleges set to resume classes after cyberattack

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Community College District is set to resume classes Monday after a cyberattack shut down learning for a week.

The district said it was in the process of restoring its systems, which saw classes canceled beginning March 20 due to suspicious activity related to a potential cyberattack.

“The Maricopa County Community College District has made great strides in their efforts to safely restore systems and are now beginning the process of reinstating access to employee and student emails,” the district said in a statement.

The network was offline since March 16, during spring break, and affected student and faculty access to MyInfo, Canvas, RioLearn, Maricopa email, Google Tools and the Student Information System.

The district said it would require all students and faculty to change their passwords before individual access to those applications was reinstated.

The semester was extended one week to May 22 to make up for the lost time.
