Man who used a wheelchair dies after central Phoenix collision

A man who used a wheelchair died on Saturday due to injuries he sustained in a collision on Thursday in central Phoenix.

PHOENIX — A man who used a wheelchair died on Saturday due to injuries he sustained in a collision on Thursday in central Phoenix.

The man, who was possibly impaired and has not been identified, was hit by a vehicle near 25th and Roosevelt Streets around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Officers arrived to find him with life-threatening injuries and Phoenix Fire Department personnel transported him to the hospital.

The Vehicular Crimes Unit determined the driver, who remained at the scene, tried to avoid the wheelchair user as he entered the roadway but was unable to.

The driver did not show signs of impairment, police said.

The man died from his injuries on Saturday, and the investigation in ongoing.
